Internationals: How did Glasgow City's players fare?

Internationals: How did Glasgow City's players fare?

A number of our squad were on international duty over the last 10 days, with some representing City in the UEFA Nations League whilst others competed in friendly matches.

There was cause for celebration for forward Nicole Kozlova and Ukraine as they won promotion to League A, finishing at the top of Group B4 with a game to spare.

A 2-1 win over Albania on Friday night, when our No.19 came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, ensured promotion, before their campaign ended in  a 2-0 defeat to Croatia on Tuesday evening with Kozlova playing the full 90 minutes.

Elsewhere in the Nations League, goalkeeper Lee Gibson and defender Amy Muir both played the entirety of Scotland's matches against Austria at Hampden and in Tilburg against the Netherlands.

At Hampden, although it ended in defeat and confirmed Scotland's relegation to League B, a Player of the Match display from Gibson ensured a narrow scoreline of only 1-0 against Austria. She made several big saves to deny the visitors a greater advantage.

Against the Netherlands, Gibson and Muir played a key role in helping Scotland claim their first point of the campaign as it finished 1-1. Our goalkeeper helped contribute to the goal as she made a vital save before Scotland broke up the other end and netted the equaliser through Kathleen McGovern.

Also representing Scotland was trio Ava Easdon, Chloe Warrington and Lisa Forrest, who were away with the U23s. It was a debut call-up at this age group for Easdon and Forrest.

It proved to be a successful maiden outing with the U23s for Forrest who registered three assists over the double-header against Iceland. She helped her country to a 2-2 draw in the first fixture after coming on as a substitute and teeing up the second goal, before starting in the next meeting on Monday afternoon where she assisted both goals in Scotland's 2-1 win.

Warrington featured in both matches, starting the first and coming on in the 76th minute in the second, while goalkeeper Easdon was an unused substitute.

Also making a positive impression on her debut appearance with her country was Samantha van Diemen who scored for the Dominican Republic on her first cap. She helped them to a 4-2 win over Honduras on Thursday.

The two sides met again on Sunday evening when van Diemen was named amongst the substitutes and on this occasion it ended in a 1-0 win over Honduras.

Linda Motlhalo also enjoyed a successful international camp as she helped South Africa win the Three-Nations Series after wins against Botswana and Zambia.

Our No.20 was an unused substitute in the 3-2 win over Botswana last week, but started and played 90 minutes in Tuesday afternoon's 2-0 win over Zambia which confirmed Banyana Banyana's triumph in the friendly tournament.

Sofia Määttä was called up to the Finland U23s squad where they participated in a behind-closed-doors training match.
