Club Legend Jo Love to Leave Glasgow City

Club Legend Jo Love to Leave Glasgow City

After 14 years of tremendous service, we can confirm that club captain Jo Love will leave Glasgow City upon the expiration of her contract at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The 39-year-old midfielder will leave the club following Sunday's Scottish Cup Final having to date made nearly 300 appearances, scoring 99 goals and winning eleven Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, six Scottish Cups, and four League Cups.

She also etched her name into City’s history books by being part of the respective squads who reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2015 and 2019, with Love scoring the winning penalty against Brøndby to secure our place in that latter season.

Love said: It’s time for everyone to start something fresh and to see what the next challenge will bring.

“I have stayed at this club for so long because I love the people here. To have experienced so much success with them is something really special.

“There can never be enough thank yous to all of the people who have helped me through all the highs and the lows. My family have played a massive part in that, and I found another family with City.”

After 10 years spent at the club, the highly decorated Love, who is Scotland’s most-capped outfield player, would replace Leanne Ross as club captain following her retirement in 2021.

She would go on to lead City to a 16th SWPL title, her 11th, in dramatic fashion when we beat Rangers at Ibrox on the last day of the 2022/23 season.

This season, Love made seven appearances in the league and scored twice to help her side finish second and secure a Champions League spot for next season.

Her final outing as a Glasgow City player could take place at the national stadium when we look to win a historic 10th Scottish Cup at Hampden, with Love having been part of six of our previous wins.

Everyone at Glasgow City would like to express our utmost thanks to Jo and everything she has done for our club during her time with us. There is no question that she is one of the best to ever represent us.

Once City, Always City.
