Lauder double fires City to three points

Dundee United 1
Wilson (44)

Glasgow City 3
Davidson (16)
Lauder (24, 88)

A double strike from captain Hayley Lauder helped Glasgow City to a second win in five days as they beat Dundee United 3-1 at Foundation Park.

Lauren Davidson had opened the scoring for Leanne Ross' on 16th minute before Lauder strikes in the 24th and 88th minute. Jade Wilson had earlier pulled back for the home side just before half time.

City were looking for their second win on the bounce after a gutsy win over Montrose in midweek and almost found themselves ahead immediately when Lauder's drive from the edge of the area hit the inside of the post in the opening minutes.

Mairead Fulton was the next to go close when her effort from outside the box just cleared the United crossbar, however, it didn't take much longer for City to go ahead when SWF SWPL player of the year Davidson topped off a memorable week by grabbing the game's opening goal with an arrow drive from just inside the area.

The second would arrive shortly after thanks to a superb pass from Abbie Larkin who released Lauder in the box. Her first effort would be saved away but there was nothing McNicoll would do about the rebound as the captain slammed it home to double the advantage.

Both Megan Foley and Kenzie Weir would then go close for the away side before Wilson scored to half the deficit after City failed to clear and she tapped home from close range.

The second half would see City dominate the play once again but were once again denied by an excellent save from McNicoll after Larkin tried her luck from distance. Aleigh Gambone would then have a header cleared off the line.

A neat bit of play from Larkin then almost saw her score a goal of the season contender but it would go agonisingly wide before Amy Muir almost grabbed her own long range strike.

Davidson would then turn provided for Lauder in the dying minutes as her effort was well saved by the United 'keeper but the skipper was there once again to place home.

The win keeps City clear in third as they head to Hibernian next week.
