We are thrilled to announce goalkeeper Lee Gibson and defender Amy Muir have been named as our co-captains for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
The pair will share the armband and the responsibilities that come with that, replacing the departed Jo Love and Hayley Lauder who has taken the role of player-assistant coach.
The captaincy is not unfamiliar to both players, with Gibson skippering the side on a number of occasions throughout her years at the club, as has Muir in recent times.
Gibson – a 63-cap Scotland international – boasts the most City appearances of our current squad, having played for the club 276 times over two spells. Her first period with us was between 2011 and 2015, before she returned in 2016 after time spent in Sweden.
She has enjoyed a trophy-laden time with the club, winning 20 pieces of domestic silverware with City, including 10 Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, six Scottish Cups and four League Cups.
Upon being named co-captain, Gibson said: “It is a role that I take really seriously and I'm really proud to be given the opportunity to lead the team and help in any capacity both on and off the pitch.
"To share the captaincy alongside Amy, she is a natural leader and I really believe she will flourish in the role."
Since joining the club in the summer of 2022, Muir has become an integral player our squad and an important component of our formidable backline, alongside Gibson.
Approaching a century of appearances, the Scotland international has played 94 times for City over her three seasons at the club – including 35 matches in our 2022/23 SWPL title-winning campaign.
Muir is delighted to be given the captain’s armband alongside her teammate for club and country, as she said: “It is a real privilege to be asked to co captain this club alongside Lee.
"She is someone who leads and motivates naturally and has a wealth of experience.
"Working with her in this role is something that I am looking forward too and only motivates me further to do well for the team."
