We are thrilled to announce that long-serving goalkeeper Lee Gibson has extended her stay at the club, penning a one-year contract extension until 2026.
The 33-year-old Scotland international has made over 250 appearances for Glasgow City over two spells. She first played for the club between 2011 and 2015, before re-signing in late 2016 after a period spent in Sweden.
A trophy-laden career has seen Gibson win 20 pieces of domestic silverware with City, including 10 Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, six Scottish Cups and four League Cups.
Gibson was a key player in helping City reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2019 when she saved three penalties during the shootout against Brondby.
On the international stage, the goalkeeper has made 61 appearances for Scotland. She was part of the squad called up for the European Championships in 2017 and played in all three matches at the 2019 FIFA World Cup.
After signing her new deal, Gibson said: “I’m delighted to play for the club. It has always been a huge honour for me, and I want to continue to contend and win a lot more trophies.
“I’m hungry for more. You get the appetite when you first join this club. You know what is expected of you, and that is to compete on all fronts. I’ve been very fortunate to win a lot of silverware, and I’ve got the desire for even more.
“The club is a standalone club and is the most successful in Scottish women’s football for a reason. There is nowhere else I would rather be.”
Head coach Leanne Ross is delighted to secure the services of Gibson for another year, as she added: “We are all pleased that Lee has extended her time with us.
“The impact she has had on this team over the years is immeasurable. Every day in training we see how she pushes standards to the next level, and that has been reflected in the success she has had with us.
“Her professionalism, performances and presence in the team are what set her apart. She remains one of the best in the Scottish game, and I look forward to seeing her continue to thrive over the next year.”
