Lisa Forrest: 'I'll always do my best to help the team'

Whether it is adopting a new number on the back of her shirt or playing in a different position on the pitch, Lisa Forrest is ready to make the most of any opportunity that comes her way.

This season, the 19-year-old who became our new No.7 after the shirt became available in the summer, has played across the frontline; on either flank or through the middle.

It has been a great learning experience for the Scotland youth international and one she relishes when match minutes come her way, with Forrest hoping to get the nod once again when we make the trip to Hamilton Academical in the second round of the Sky Sports Cup this Sunday.

Our next home match takes place on October 12 when we host Partick Thistle at Petershill Park. Don't miss out on a Peasy derby day and get your tickets now!

"I like to play in all three positions," Lisa, who has scored twice this season, said. "Just whatever I'm asked to do on the day - if that's down the right, left or up top - I'll always do my best to help the team.

"We've got a lot of experience in the team and a lot of foreign players, so I just try and learn as much as I can from everyone whether that's in training or in games, and take it into my own career."

And when you are utilised in a number of different areas on the pitch, those learnings come so naturally. It is also a necessary part of being a young player, and something that Forrest embraces.

"I just think like learning when it comes to making a mistake then it's done, and not letting it affect your game," Lisa explained. "That you have to keep going.

"I'm obviously still a young player, but as I've gotten older, you do realise that no player is perfect. Some games you're not going to be involved in the game as much or you might mistakes, but those are learnings.

"And it's learning that if you do have another opportunity then you have to take it and be switched on to the game."

Forrest made her debut for Glasgow City back in September 2022, and will likely reach a century of appearances for our club during this campaign.

Her being one of our most promising talents is reflected in the trust Head Coach Leanne Ross and her staff to pitch her in at what can sometimes be both an unfamiliar position and in a high-stake encounter.

"It obviously gives you that extra bit of encouragement and boost to know that you're trusted and trusted in the big games," Lisa said. "I always try and carry out my role as best as I can, no matter the opposition or occasion."

As we chat, the young forward admits she forgets that number seven is now her number. A testament to her focus being on what's going on the pitch, rather than what is on the back of her shirt.

But when it did become available following the departure of the long-serving Mairead Fulton, she jumped at the chance of taking it.

"Seven has always been my favourite number," Lisa said. "I'm born on the 7th and so is my sister and one of my brothers, so it has been a lucky number for me for all of my life.

"When the opportunity came up here to take it, I just thought: 'why not?' and went for it."

Our No.7 will hope to next be in action when we begin our Sky Sports Cup campaign against Accies. It will be the fourth competition City have featured in this season despite being only six weeks into the season.

"We want to be involved in as many competitions that we can," Lisa said. "We've got a really big squad for a reason and it feels like no matter what team we put out, it is strong and the bench is strong as well.

"We just have to do our best in all the competitions.

"Anything can happen in the cup. We take every opposition the same and prepare for everyone the same way. We don't underestimate anyone.

"It was a tough game the last time we played Hamilton and we've looked back on that game, and we know what we need to do. It's about going out and applying that.

"They are a good side and well drilled in what they do, but we believe we can go out there and get to the next round of the cup."

Your next opportunity to watch Lisa at the Peasy will be our SWPL match against Partick Thistle and our Europa Cup second leg against HB Køge. Get your tickets for both matches on Fanbase!
