Arriving at Glasgow City marked an important career milestone for Louisa Boyes who has penned her first full-time professional contract in football. It is something she has been aiming for as long as she can remember.
In the below piece, the midfielder – who has joined our club on a two-year deal with the option of an extra year – penned in her own words what this moment means to her.
“Surreal. That’s how it feels to sign my first professional contract. And to do it at Glasgow City? I’m over the moon.
“It’s something I’ve wanted for a very long time. Now I’ve got the chance, I’m ready to go and prove myself. Grasp it with both hands.
“Over the last few years, there have been moments which have made me feel like I could turn that into a reality. But it’s something that has taken a lot of hard work and dedication.
“I knew if I kept pushing myself, kept learning from my coaches, and learning from the players I play alongside, that I could achieve what I was aiming for.
“There’s so much that goes into it. I've been so dedicated. Juggling a full-time job at the office with training, matchdays and the time spent away from the club with your own personal football programmes, I’ve had to push myself.
“When you come up against the best in the country like I have done over the last few seasons, you need to go that extra mile to stand out.
“It’s not just been through my hard work though. So many people have supported me along the way. Family, friends, coaches, and teammates.
“These are the people that you learn from. You take their advice. You develop with the help of those around you.
“All I can say to them is thank you. I know the sacrifices some of them have made to help me get to this point in my career. I’m forever grateful.
“It has paid off. Although my dream has become a reality, it’s still not sunk in.
“If I could tell the little Louisa who started playing football in her Gran’s back garden with her cousins, I don’t know what she’d say.
“But I’d tell her well done. That she is another step closer to achieving everything we set out to do as there is so still so much on the horizon.
“So, now it’s time to take this next step. To meet new people at City. To build new relationships and to keeping making strides.
“This is the right place for my game to improve. Working with the coaches and the international players, it’s going to be a whirlwind. Something I'm absolutely ready to embrace.
“Becoming a professional footballer might be an unknown for me right now, but I’m ready to go and live my dream. I don’t think it gets much better than that.”
