Lovera leveller hands City share of the spoils at Rangers

Rangers 1
McAuley 48'

Glasgow City 1
Lovera 52'

A first goal for summer signing Brenna Lovera would see Glasgow City earn a well deserved draw with Rangers at Broadwood Stadium this afternoon.

Leanne Ross would welcome Lee Gibson, Meikayla Moore, Hayley Lauder and Lovera back to the starting XI as the head coach made four changes from the midweek win over Motherwell.

And it was 26-year-old Lovera who almost broke the deadlock after just one minute when she connected to a left wing cross and crashed a header against Jenna Fife's bar before Lauder saw a shot blocked in the box.

Rangers would then have a chance of their own when Kirsty Howat broke free on City's left but her attempted chip had too much power and sailed over Gibson's bar.

Mairead Fulton would go ever closer just before the half hour mark when her swirling long range drive looked set to dip beyond Fife into the net only for the Rangers stopped to claw it away, while Rio Hardy saw a long range drive sail over the bar.

It was the home side who would break the deadline though just after the restart when a pinpoint ball from Kirsty MacLean was latched onto by Mia McAuley and the teenager slotted home.

The lead would last just four minutes though thanks to a foraging 50-yard run from Lauren Davidson who flicked an inch perfect pass for Lovera to place into the center of the net to restore parity.

Gibson was then forced into a fantastic save on the hour mark when Hardy found herself from in the box before a tremendous late challenge from Claire Walsh prevented another dangerous opportunity for Rangers.

With both sides searching for the win, former Durham forward Hardy would find herself with another golden opportunity as she fired over from close range after Howat had drawn a good save from Gibson.

In the end though, neither side were able to find the crucial winner as the top three clash ended all square.
