The re-arranged SWPL match between Spartans and Glasgow City is our opening league match of 2023.
Match Information:
It’s a trip to the capital for our first SWPL game of the year as we face Spartans for the second time this season.
If you are unable to make it to Ainslie Park on Wednesday night, you can keep up to date with all the action on our social channels or watch the action on BBC ALBA. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
The Opposition:
A trip to Ainslie Park is a regular in a Glasgow City supporters calendar as Spartans have been an ever present figure in the SWPL since the changed from Edinburgh Ladies.
The Edinburgh based side finished sixth last season and are looking to repeat that feat this season and secure a spot in the top half before the split in March however have work to do in the second round of fixtures.
Debbi McCulloch has a good blend of youth and experience within her squad.
Previous Meetings:
Glasgow City and Spartans met on the opening day of the 2022-23 Scottish Women’s Premier League season with City starting the campaign with victory. A Clare Shine hat-trick put City on the road to victory along with goals from Claire Walsh, Lauren Davidson, Abbi Grant and a first City goal for Kinga Kozak.
Form Guide:
Spartans have hit a rough patch of form with only one win in their last seven SWPL matches. However, during that time, the Edinburgh club reached the Semi Finals of the Sky Sports Cup with penalty shoot out victories over Hearts and Celtic.
In their last match, Spartans were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Edinburgh rivals Hibernian.
Glasgow City sit top of the SWPL with only two points dropped all season. City have a 100% record away from home in all competitions.
Last time out, City booked a place in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup with victory over Hamilton Academical.
