The Opposition:
FC Gintra are a powerhouse in Lithuanian women’s football having won the A Lyga a record 21 times including for the last 18 seasons.
In the UEFA Women’s Champions League, FC Gintra have made it to the Round of 16 twice in their history. In 2014-15 they progressed through qualifying before beating Sparta Prague on penalties after two 1-1 draws. Brondby proved a step too far in the Round of 16 losing 7-0 on aggregate.
FC Gintra failed to make it out the qualifying stage for the next two editions but in 2017-18, they once again reached the Round of 16 after winning all three qualifying games before knocking out FC Zurich 3-2 on aggregate.
When the new format of the competition was introduced in 2021/22, FC Gintra reached the Round 1 Final but lost out to Icelandic side Breidablik before last year they were beaten in the semi final stage by KuPS of Finland.
They reached the Round 1 Final this year with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City thanks to two goals from Juliet Bassey.
