Match Preview | v Shelbourne

The UEFA Women’s Champions League returns…

Match Information:

Shelbourne are the opponents for our first match in this year’s UEFA Women’s Champions League with a place in the Round 1 Final at stake.

Kick off is at 10am UK time.

For those who were unable to make the trip to Lithuania, we will have social updates and match highlights on our social channels.

The Opposition:

For a third time, Shelbourne secured the Women’s National League title in 2022 to successfully defend their title they had won in 2021 for the first time in five years.

Shelbourne have only lost one European game in their history. Their first qualification in 2017 saw them exit at the qualifying stage after opening the group stage with two consecutive goalless draws against Medyk Konin of Poland and Finish side PK-35 Vantaa. They secured a maiden victory on the European stage in their final group game against Northern Irish side Linfield with two late goals giving them a 3-1 victory.

It would be five years before Shelbourne got another chance to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Last year they were drawn to face Slovenian side Pomurje. Heather O’Reilly’s early goal was enough to see the Irish side reach the Round 1 Final but Icelandic side Valur were too strong and won 3-0.

The Irish side have former City players Noelle Murray and Keeva Keenan in their squad and currently sit second in the League of Ireland after 15 matches having won both their league matches since the summer break.
