We returned to ScottishPower Women's Premier League action following the international break with a solid 2-0 victory over Partick Thistle under the lights at Firhill Stadium.
Match Action at Firhill Stadium
Head Leanne Ross rotated her squad ahead of a busy end of season schedule and we dominated possession early, spending much of the opening half an hour camped in the attacking third, testing the Thistle defence with a series of chances.
The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute as Emma Brownlie dived through the air to meet a pinpoint delivery from Mebs, powering a superb header into the bottom-left corner to open the scoring.
The hosts responded with spells of pressure, seeing more of the ball and firing efforts towards goal but after a steady opening to the second half, City began to assert control once again, building momentum as the search for the second continued.
That second would come 20 minutes after the break as Linda burst down the wing and delivered a driven cross, which found its way into the back of the net via a deflection.
There was a superb late save from Lee to preserve a collective clean sheet before fresh legs were introduced in the later stages of the game. Lisa Forrest, Natalia Wróbel, Sofia Määttä, Maddy Earl and Louisa Boyes all added into the mix with their energy piling further pressure on the Thistle backline as City pushed for a third goal.
The final whistle confirmed a deserved 2-0 win and City remain just two points behind league leaders Hearts, following their win over Rangers earlier in the day.
Next up, Celtic at The Peasy this coming Wednesday night as the title chase continues.
