Motherwell 1-2 Glasgow City - SWPL Summary

Motherwell 1-2 Glasgow City - SWPL Summary

In our penultimate Scottish Women's Premier League fixture of the season, City came from 1-0 down to beat Motherwell 2-1 at K Park.

Bailley Collins had put the hosts in front just before the hour mark with a long-range strike, but their lead was not intact for long as Nicole Kozlova bundled the home to make it 1-1 only minutes after. Second-half substitute Brenna Lovera scored the match-winner from the penalty spot inside the final 10 minutes.

In our final away outing this season, Leanne Ross made five changes from our preceding fixture against Hibernian, with Amy Muir, Natalie Wróbel, Lisa Forrest, Linda Motlhalo, and Nicole Kozlova all introduced to the starting XI.

It was a fast start for the visitors who forced Motherwell's goalkeeper into action early on as she denied Kozlova, pushing the strike beyond her far post.

Our next opportunity came from a corner when Samantha van Diemen rose highest in the box, but her header was directed over the bar, before Wróbel - who was making her first start in over a month after recovering from injury - trailed a shot wide.

City goalkeeper Lee Gibson made her first save of the evening after 30 minutes when she was alert to gather a Motherwell free-kick whipped in from 30 yards out.

At the other end, Lisa Evans called Rebecca Cameron into action once again, but it proved to be a comfortable save for the home goalkeeper, who gathered it.

With an opener needed, City made three changes at half-time with Kimberley Smit, Sofia Määttä, and Lovera replacing Lisa Evans, Motlhalo and Wróbel.

And Lovera had an early opportunity from a corner, before Aleigh Gambone saw her header drop wide from another delivery sent in by Forrest.

It continued to be a dominant start to the second half and brave goalkeeping from Motherwell's Cameron soon denied Kozlova from close range and Lovera's rebounded strike was then smothered by the goalkeeper.

We went behind just before the hour mark when a long-range strike from Collins soared into the back of the net.

But the hosts were not ahead for long as Kozlova bundled home the equaliser after a delivery from Forrest from a corner.

We thought we had netted our second to go in front with ten minutes left to go, but Kozlova was denied her brace as her finish from close range was adjudged to be offside.

Our lead did arrive, though, and it was Lovera who put us ahead from the penalty spot, with Kozlova having won the foul.

There is still so much to play for. We know what we need to do at the Peasy on Sunday - get your ticket here!
