A shoulder injury may have put a temporary pause on Natalia Wróbel’s season, but the midfielder is now ready to play her part in Glasgow City’s remaining games.
The Poland international missed four games in April, before returning to the matchday squad in our 1-0 win against Rangers at Ibrox a fortnight ago.
Her first appearance since the injury sustained in training arrived from the bench in our win against Celtic at Petershill Park earlier this month, and she was used as a substitute once again in our 2-2 draw with Hibernian in our last outing.
Now with match minutes under her belt, our No.10 is raring to contribute to City’s remaining matches, starting with Wednesday night’s visit to K Park to face Motherwell.
“I’m so happy to be back on the field,” Wróbel said. “It was a hard time for me. It was an unlucky injury, but I'm back now and looking forward to our upcoming games to finish the season as best we can.
“I’m feeling fresh. I’m ready to help the team. Of course, I'm disappointed to lose game time because of the injury, especially because they were such important games.
“But, it’s good to be back and now is the time for me to go out there and help my team as much as I can.”
Wróbel has enjoyed an impressive first campaign in Scotland, making 25 appearances and scoring 12 goals across all competitions. Twenty-one of those matches have come in the SWPL, with all but one of her goals being scored in the league.
With two games left to go in our league campaign – the visit to Motherwell and Sunday’s home clash against Hearts at Petershill Park – the midfielder is hoping to showcase the player who garnered such plaudits before her injury.
“I always want to show my best to help the team,” Wróbel added. “Whether that is scoring some goals, getting assists... I just want to do what I can for the rest of the season.”
A draw with Hibernian in our previous fixture means we trail the league leaders by three points with two games left to go.
And although that means we must hope other teams drop points as well as winning both our games if we are to win the SWPL title, Wróbel insists our focus remains on our task at hand, starting with tomorrow’s trip to the Women of Steel.
“It’s so important to remember things can still change and we have to be ready for that,” she said. “We have to win our games against Motherwell and Hearts and finish the season strong.
“Whether the other teams drop points or not, we just have to focus on us because we still have a job to do.”
