Glasgow City booked their spot in the Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup Fourth Round courtesy of a 3-1 victory over neighbours Partick Thistle at Petershill Park.
Leanne Ross welcomed new Assistant Coach Leanne Crichton into the dugout for the first time, and her side made the perfect start with just seven minutes on the clock. Lisa Evans latching onto a ball on the edge of the area before rifling the ball emphatically past a fully stretched Jeni Currie.
City came close to adding a second in the opening period when a Lisa Forrest effort from out wide rattled the crossbar but the score would remain at 1-0 going into the break as the game grew scrappy as the half continued.
The start of the second showed more cohesion for City but it would be the hosts that would next get on the scoresheet as Aleigh Gambone was adjudged to have handled inside the area. Former City Academy graduate Cara Henderson stepped up to tuck away the resultant penalty and bring Thistle level.
Parity would last for just five minutes though with Emily Whelan restoring City's lead in the 68th minute, smashing home from close range after being quickest to react to a loose ball on the edge of the six yard box.
As the home side looked to create opportunities for an equaliser City put the game to bed with twelve minutes to go. Natalia Wróbel thinking quickly to deftly chip Currie and confirm a safe passage into the Fourth Round of the competition as The Original Trailblazers made a winning return following the international break.
Next up is a SWPL double header, with a trip to Hearts this coming Wednesday night before the visit of Rangers next Sunday, tickets for which can be bought here now.
