Two of the top three in the Scottish Women’s Premier League football meet this Sunday as we welcome Celtic to Petershill Park.
Match Information:
It’s the first of three Glasgow derbies in the SWPL for City with Celtic the visitors this weekend.
If you are unable to make it to Petershill Park on Sunday, you can keep up to date with all the action on our social channels or watch the match live on BBC ALBA. Kick off is at 4.10.
The Opposition:
After a second and third placed finishes in the last two seasons, Fran Alonso and Celtic are aiming to go one better in their search for a maiden SWPL title.
Top goalscorer Charlie Wellings left in the summer but Celtic have signed well with Lucy Ashworth-Clifford and Amy Gallacher joining the club and both finding the net already.
Previous Meetings:
Glasgow City and Celtic met five times last season including in both Cup Finals. In the SWPL, City won both league meetings at Petershill Park while the first match of the season saw the sides play out a 2-2 draw in Airdrie.
Both Cup Finals went in favour of Celtic by a one goal margin with the Hoops winning the SWPL Cup 1-0 and the Scottish Cup Final 3-2 after extra time.
Form Guide:
Celtic have started the 2022-23 Scottish Women’s Premier League strongly and currently sit top of the table on goal difference after winning all eight of their league matches so far. They are yet to concede a goal in the league this season.
The Hoops have tasted defeat in the cup however after losing on penalties last weekend to Spartans in the Quarter Finals of the Sky Sports Cup after playing the majority of the match with 10 players.
Glasgow City also have a 100% record in the SWPL this season but sit behind Celtic via goal difference. City haven’t conceded a goal in any competition since Francesca Ogilvie’s goal for Aberdeen two months ago.
City’s last match saw us secure a place in the Semi Final of the Sky Sports Cup with a 9-0 victory away to Glasgow Women.
