Preview: Glasgow City v Hamilton Academical

Glasgow City’s first home Scottish Women’s Premier League fixture of 2023 is a repeat of our first fixture of the calendar year as Hamilton Academical are once again the visitors to Petershill Park.

Match Information:

It’s a second successive home match against Hamilton Academical as we head towards the halfway mark of the season.

If you are unable to make it to Petershill Park on Sunday, you can keep up to date with all the action on our social channels or watch the match on Recast. Kick off is at 1pm.

The Opposition:

It’s a second consecutive season in the top flight of Scottish Women’s football for Hamilton Academical and they will their eyes set on securing their status for another season. 12 points clear of bottom side Glasgow Women, Accies are looking up the table rather than down and they have already scored more goals this season than they did in the whole of their 2021-22 SWPL campaign.

Gary Doctor has made efforts to improve his side in their fight to avoid the relegation play off with Holly Aitchison joining the side on loan from Hearts.

Previous Meetings:

Glasgow City and Hamilton Academical met just two weeks ago in Leanne Ross’s first match in charge. Beatriz Prades Insa, Erin Greening, Hayley Lauder and Kinga Kozak got on the scoresheet in that Scottish Cup tie. In the SWPL meeting back in October, Lauren Davidson scored a hat-trick from the penalty spot as City won 6-0.

Form Guide:

A midweek victory moved Hamilton Academical up to ninth in the SWPL table after a poor run of results had seen Accies only win once since August.

In their last match, Hamilton Accies ended that six game losing run with a 4-0 victory over Glasgow Women.

Glasgow City sit top of the SWPL with only two points dropped all season and currently sit five points clear.

Last time out, City scored eight away at Dundee United.
