Preview: Glasgow Women v Glasgow City

We’ve got midweek Scottish Women’s Premier League football on Wednesday as City make the trip to Coatbridge to face Glasgow Women.

Match Information:

This fixture was originally arranged for Sunday 11th of September but was postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

If you are unable to make it to Cliftonhill Stadium tonight, you can keep up to date with all the action on our social channels. Kick off is at 7.30.

The Opposition:

Glasgow Women are in the top flight of Scottish women’s football for the first time in the club’s history. Last season’s final day victory over Boroughmuir Thistle secured promotion.

Since promotion, Glasgow Women have a new name in the dugout with Craig Joyce being replaced by Andy Gardner and lost a few players including SWPL2 player of the year nominee Cara Henderson.

Previous Meetings:

Glasgow Women and Glasgow City meet for the first time in a league fixture tonight. Two of the previous three fixtures took place in 2016 while the most recent meeting was last season when City secured their first victory of the season in the group stage of the SWPL Cup with a 9-0 victory.

Glasgow Women have never scored against Glasgow City.

Form Guide:

Glasgow Women have certainly found life in the top flight difficult since promotion in May. They currently sit bottom of the league table without a point from their opening seven games with the closest they have come to a point coming in a 90th minute defeat at home to Hamilton Academical.

Last time out, Glasgow Women conceded seven away at Celtic.

City have a 100% record in the SWPL after seven victories to start the season. Only Aberdeen have been able to breach the City defence so far with Erin Clachers and Lee Gibson keeping clean sheets in every away game so far.

City’s last match saw us secure an away fixture at Hamilton Academical.

SWPL Fixtures this Wednesday:

Aberdeen v Hibernian (19:30)

Glasgow Women v Glasgow City (19:30)

Dundee United v Celtic (19:45)
