A first-half penalty from Brenna Lovera and an assured team performance saw Glasgow City claim an important win against Rangers at Ibrox.
The deserved three points moves City up to second in the standings, sitting with 64 points, with four SWPL games left to go.
It was the hosts who had the first chance when Camile Lafaix rattled the crossbar from a shot on the edge of the box inside the opening five minutes.
A great ball from Claire Walsh soon found Sofia Määttä down the left flank and the latter cut the ball back in the box, but before one of her teammates could create a meaningful connection, it was blocked by Rangers.
Walsh was then tasked to make a great block to deny Kirsty Maclean after Rangers capitalised on City losing possession from a goal kick.
We fashioned our best opportunity thus far when Määttä went on a superb run down the left wing, before playing the ball across the face of goal to find an unmarked Emily Whelan at the back post, but our forward missed the target and sent her shot wide.
Another glorious chance for the opener was missed and it was from more great play down the left which saw Määttä find Lovera on the overlap. The forward then found Whelan in the box, who flicked it on with her head to Katie Lockwood, who scooped her shot over the bar from only a few yards out.
Our lead arrived in the 38th minute when Lovera buried a penalty in the bottom corner, having won the spotkick when she was brought down by Rangers goalkeeper Jenna Fife.
Ten minutes into the second half, we went close to our second. Lovera did incredibly well to beat Kathy Hill down the left, before cutting the ball back from the byline. It found Aleigh Gambone, who fired a strike over the bar.
Lee Gibson was called into action as we approached the hour mark and it was a comfortable stop for our goalkeeper as she gathered Chelsea Cornet's shot from distance.
We continued to dominate the ball, but there were spells when Rangers found their way back into the game. One such time led to substitute Kirsty Howat firing a shot goalwards from close range, but she was denied by an alert Gibson.
We are back at home this weekend, hosting Celtic in our penultimate match at the Peasy. Get your ticket for the Peasy here.
