Sky Sports Cup Match Report: Livingston v Glasgow City

The reigning Sky Sports Cup winners began the 2026/27 campaign in emphatic fashion, recording a 8-0 victory over Livingston at the Home of the Set Fare Arena.

An Emily Gray hat-trick, Ruby Seaby's first competitive goal for the club and further strikes from Linda Motlhalo, Sofia Määttä  and Emily Whelan ensured City made the perfect start to the campaign.

City started on the front foot and immediately put Livingston under pressure, with Ruby Seaby proving a constant threat in the opening exchanges.

The breakthrough arrived early when Emily Gary's dangerous delivery into the box took a deflection and fell to Linda Motlhalo, who made no mistake and fired home with a composed first-time finish.

We continued to dominate possession and create chances. Ruby twice picked out Abi Harrison in the box, first with a teasing cross that Harrison headed wide before another delivery was gathered by Livingston goalkeeper Alex Reid.

City's second goal arrived midway through the half. Amy Muir spotted Gray in space and played a superb pass into the forward, who drove into the area before curling an excellent effort across goal and into the far corner.

Hayley Lauder and Sofia Määttä both tested Reid as City searched for a third, which eventually arrived ten minutes before the break. Amy again turned provider, picking out Ruby inside the area, and the forward rifled home to score her first official goal in Glasgow City colours.

City added a fourth before half-time when Abi's cross found Emily Gray, who was on hand to convert from close range and give us a commanding lead at the interval.

Emily Whelan and Tia Primmer were introduced at the break, replacing Erin McLaughlin and Amy Muir.

The substitutes made an immediate impact, with Emily Whelan testing Reid within minutes of the restart. City thought they had extended their advantage shortly afterwards when Lauder found the net from distance, but the effort was ruled out following an infringement in the build-up.

Despite Livingston attempting to gain a foothold in the contest, City continued to control proceedings. Emma Brownlie headed narrowly over from a Lauder free-kick before Motlhalo went close after good work from Primmer.

The fifth goal arrived just after the hour mark. Linda latched onto the ball inside the area, rounded the goalkeeper and calmly slotted into the empty net.

Further changes saw Lisa Forrest and Kelly Brady replace Ruby and Abi, and City's intensity showed no signs of dropping.

Sofia Määttä added a deserved sixth with a strike from outside the box before Emily Gray completed her hat-trick moments later to cap another outstanding individual display.

The final word went to Emily Whelan, who found the net in the closing stages to complete an emphatic 8-0 victory and an ideal start to City's title defence.
