Match Action
We were hot off the mark and set the tone with an immediate press. Ruby Seaby was involved early, sending a dangerous cross into the area for Kelly Brady, but the Celtic goalkeeper reacted well to claim before City could capitalise. A Lisa Evans corner quickly followed as the hosts looked to keep the pressure on, forcing Celtic onto the back foot in the opening exchanges.
The second half began with both sides enjoying spells of possession, while the visitors looked to test City's defence.
A change arrived in the 58th minute as Emily Gray replaced Lisa Forrest.
City came close to doubling their lead just two minutes later. An Emily Whelan drive sparked the opportunity, releasing Ruby one-on-one with the keeper. After rounding Gay and getting her shot away, her effort pinged the post.
City continued to press forward with purpose, although Celtic stood up to the challenge. Emily Gray tried her luck in the 75th minute, but her effort was saved.
At the other end, Celtic sought a route back into the contest from a free-kick, but Erin Clachers was alert to the danger and comfortably protected her goal.
We continued with attacking intent throughout the closing stages. Amy Muir combined well with Emily Gray inside the final ten minutes, but the forward mistimed the effort.
As the game entered its closing moments, possession continued to ebb and flow before Emily Gray latched onto the ball inside the box and produced a composed finish over Adelaide Gay to double the advantage and book City's place in the Sky Sports Cup semi-finals.
