Match Action from Petershill

There were six changes to the City team that defeated the same opposition 5-0 in the league last weekend, with Amy Muir, Emma Brownlie, Hayley Lauder, Linda Motlhalo, Mebae Tanaka and Lisa Forrest all coming into the XI.

We fashioned an opportunity inside the opening two minutes, with Natalia Wróbel cutting the ball back in the box, aiming for Forrest who was waiting only a couple yards out, but it was cut out by Dons defender Jess Broadrick.

Our next chances arrived soon after when Lauder whipped a free-kick into the box that was met by a glancing header from Muir which dropped just wide of the post, before Tanaka then fired a shot goal wards that was collected by goalkeeper Anna Prawer.

City were called into defensive action as the half-hour mark approached when Abigail Tobin sent a dangerous cross into the box that had to be headed behind by Brownlie, who was in at centre-back this afternoon.

The best opportunity of the game so far saw City be denied by the woodwork inside the final 15 minutes of the first half. A corner was whipped into the box and dropped to the feet of Tanaka, who watched her strike come back off the bar.

In the second half, half-time substitute Kozlova forced the Dons goalkeeper into a diving stop at her near post, before Lauder saw a strike from 20 yards out land just off target.

Kozlova was involved again as we fashioned another chance, with our No.19 playing through Wróbel, who's strike was met by the leg of an outstretched Prawer, sending the ball behind for a corner.

After Aberdeen's captain Hannah Stewart unleashed an off-target strike, we went up the other end and saw a curling effort from Kozlova saved by Prawer - and the Dons goalkeeper made an impressive stop in the same wave of attack to deny Motlhalo from close-range.

And it would be Kozlova who got the opener after 70 minutes. The ball was cut back to the forward by Linda, and she unleashed a curling strike from the 18-yard line beyond goalkeeper Prawer.

It would be 2-0 just five minutes later as Lockwood got on the end of a Lisa Evans corner, firing it into the back of the net from only a couple yards out. And that goal would secure our safe passage to the league cup's final four.
