SPWPL Match Report: Glasgow City v Partick Thistle

The sun was shining at The Peasy as Glasgow City secured a commanding 4-1 ScottishPower Women's Premier League victory and another three points. Erin McLaughlin's first-half equaliser provided the platform before Linda Motlhalo, Lisa Forrest and debutant Yuuka Kurosaki all found the net in the second half.

Lisa Forrest soon followed in similar fashion, picking out Amy Muir at the edge of the area. She laid the ball off to Amy Anderson, whose effort from just outside the box sailed over the crossbar.

Partick Thistle's Abby Robinson began to test the City defence, but Amy Muir was on hand to shut down the danger. City quickly regained possession and immediately looked to put the visitors' backline under pressure.

Linda Motlhalo had City's next opportunity, but her strike was gathered by Chloe Logan. The game continued to flow from end to end, with Partick Thistle enjoying a spell in City's box but unable to find a way through the sea of orange.

City responded by pushing forward once again, with Linda trying her luck from distance, although her effort drifted over the goal. Partick Thistle again threatened in the final third but found City's defence resolute, with Sofia producing a clinical interception to halt the attack.

A scrappy passage of play inside the penalty area then saw Linda drive to the backline and cut the ball back for Emily Whelan, whose first-time effort rolled just wide of the post. Thistle responded immediately with an attempt of their own, but Erin Clachers calmly gathered the effort.

Both sides continued to search for the opening goal, but it was Partick Thistle who broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark when a corner found its way to Abby Robinson at the back post for a simple finish.

City remained patient and continued to play with intensity, and their response arrived through Erin McLaughlin. The midfielder collected the ball on the edge of the box before unleashing a superb strike into the bottom corner to draw her side level.

The contest continued to ebb and flow as Partick Thistle looked to restore their advantage. Emma Brownlie was alert to shut down a dangerous run from Sophie Townsley, although the defender unfortunately sustained an injury in the process and was replaced by Yana Kotyk in the closing stages of the first half.

After the interval, Lisa Evans was introduced in place of Sofia Maatta.

City carved out an early chance in the second half when Emily Whelan delivered a dangerous cross into the six-yard box, only for it to skim past Lisa Forrest. Partick Thistle attempted to create a similar opportunity at the other end, but Jesi Rossman rose well to clear the danger. Play soon switched back towards the City attack where Kelly Brady came close to putting City ahead with an effort that skimmed the crossbar.

Rossman then won possession from a Thistle press and found Brady, who laid the ball off to Erin. Her dangerous cross picked out the run of Emily Whelan, but the forward was unable to provide the decisive touch.

City's persistence paid off in the 58th minute. Lisa Evans burst down the wing and into the penalty area before cutting the ball back to Linda, who calmly slotted home into the bottom corner to give City the lead. Just minutes later, the advantage was doubled when Lisa Forrest found the net directly from a corner.

On the 70-minute mark, Emily Gray and City debutant Yuuka Kurosaki were introduced in place of Emily Whelan and Linda Motlhalo.

Partick Thistle pushed in search of a late response during the final 15 minutes, but Erin Clachers was equal to the task whenever called upon. City continued to threaten until the very end, and in the closing moments Yuuka marked her debut in style, applying the finishing touch for her first goal for the club and rounding off an impressive City performance.
