Match Action
Glasgow City started on the front foot despite an aggressive opening press from Rangers, creating the first chance of the match when Kelly Brady drove forward and tested the visitors' defence. Soon after, a Lisa Evans corner found Lisa Forrest in the box, but her header was mistimed and eventually cleared away.
Rangers responded with an attack of their own, working the ball into a dangerous area on the edge of the City box, but Lisa Evans was alert to the danger and produced an important clearance to deny Calliste Brookshire. City quickly looked to hit back, with Kelly surging down the wing, only to be stopped before she could create a clear opening.
The game developed into an end-to-end contest as both sides searched for a breakthrough. A flowing City move saw Lisa Evans carry the ball through midfield before finding Emily Gray, who released Emily Whelan out wide. Emily Whelan's delivery picked out the driving Kelly in the box, but Shu Ohba stepped in to intercept.
City continued to apply pressure, with Lisa Forrest trying her luck from distance, although her effort drifted wide of the target. Rangers threatened at the other end but found it difficult to break through a disciplined City defence.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 31st minute. After a lively start and sustained pressure, Kelly found the back of the net to give Glasgow City a deserved lead.
Possession continued to swing between the two sides as the first half neared its conclusion. In the closing moments, Emily Gray attempted an effort from range, but her strike was comfortably gathered by the Rangers goalkeeper as City took their advantage into the break.
Both sides broke into the second half with early action.
Emily Gray disrupted Rangers' momentum with a crucial interception before delivering a dangerous cross into the area that just skimmed Lisa Forrest's head. Moments later, Kelly burst down the wing, but her run was halted on the edge of the box.
Rangers responded immediately as Katie Wilkinson advanced down the pitch and sent a cross only for Linda Motlhalo to meet it with a commanding header clear. The visitors continued to apply pressure but were unable to find a way through City's defence.
The equaliser arrived in the 55th minute when Laura Berry found the net for Rangers. City looked to hit back straight away, with Linda trying her luck from distance, but her effort drifted narrowly wide.
As the game swung from end to end, Rangers took the lead through Wilkinson.
Both sides continued to trade possession and chances, with Rangers again threatening before Jesi Rossman stepped in to clear the danger.
A Lisa Evans corner found Yuuka Kurosaki on the edge of the box, and the midfielder laid the ball off to Linda, whose strike was blocked before it could trouble the goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards, Emily Whelan drove into the penalty area and got a shot away, but a Rangers defender was on hand to make the block.
Leanne Ross freshened things up in the 78th minute, introducing Ruby Seaby in place of Kelly Brady, before Tia Primmer replaced Emily Gray four minutes later.
The closing stages saw possession continue to ebb and flow as both sides searched for another goal. Despite City's efforts, the final whistle confirmed defeat at The Peasy.
