SWPL Match Preview: Celtic v Glasgow City

SWPL Match Preview: Celtic v Glasgow City

In the first of back-to-back ScottishPower Women's Premier League away matches this week, we are on the road to New Douglas Park on Wednesday night to face Celtic.

With seven points currently separating us and Grant Scott's side, who currently sit in third, our first away fixture of the split is a chance for City to further consolidate our place at the top of the league table.

Last Time Out

We kicked off the first of our 10 SWPL post-split fixtures with an impressive 4-0 win against Partick Thistle at Petershill Park.

It was a fantastic start at the Peasy, as Emily Gray scored her first goal for the club to put us 1-0 up after two minutes, before Abi Harrison doubled our advantage by the fifth minute.

Erín McLaughlin's fantastic long-range effort made it 3-0 by half-time and another Harrison effort in the second half rounded off goal-scoring proceedings at  the Peasy.

Previous Meeting

Our last meeting with Celtic ended in a 1-1 draw at the Peasy, with Morgan Cross' 76th-minute equaliser cancelling out the opener from our forward Nicole Kozlova.

We had taken the lead when Kozlova had tapped the ball home after capitalising on a mistake by visiting goalkeeper Lisa Rodgers just after the hour mark.

In our pre-split contest with Celtic at New Douglas Park, we claimed a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Sofia Määttä and Lisa Evans in either half, respectively.

Määtta bagged the opener when she received a through pass by Kozlova, and slotted the ball into the back of the net with a superb finish ten minutes before half-time.

In the 61st, Evans opened her account for the campaign with a stunning lofted strike from a tight angle, having been picked out by goal scorer turned provided Määttä on the overlap. Saoirse Noonan netted a consolation effort late on, but we showed a great response and nerve to go on to claim all three points.
