A windy evening in the capital saw City come from behind twice to earn a hard fought 2-2 draw with Hibernian, as Kelly Brady's brace ensured the points were shared in a fiercely contested encounter.
Match Action
Kelly kicked the game off as City immediately drove up the pitch. Hibernian responded with immediate pressure of their own, earning a free kick that was sent into a sea of orange shirts, where Jesi Rossman denied an early opportunity.
Moments later, Hibs' Libby Smith unleashed a long-range effort that found the bottom corner. City were quick to respond as Kelly Brady found the net less than two minutes later to level the score.
Hibernian searched for another breakthrough, but Emma Brownlie shut down the opportunity. Jesi then made a surging run, weaving through the midfield before finding Emily Whelan with a one-touch pass. Em's effort sailed over the crossbar. Minutes later, she tried her luck again from distance, but her strike drifted wide.
A Lisa Evans corner found Lisa Forrest, who sent a powerful header over the crossbar. Hibernian looked to take the lead but their effort also cleared the bar.
An Emma Brownlie clearance found Lisa Forrest down the wing, who played a first-time pass to Kelly Brady. Brady surged up the pitch and got a shot away, but Rowena Armitage was equal to it and made the save.
Possession continued to swing back and forth as both sides searched for an advantage before half-time. Hibernian launched a counter-attack, but Lisa Evans denied Libby Smith entry into the area.
The hosts continued to test City's defence, but the back line stood firm and refused to give anything away lightly.
A free kick from outside the area looked promising for City as Lisa Evans stepped up, but Armitage got down well to make the save at her near post.
Minutes later, Hibernian carved their way through the City defence, forcing Lee Gibson into three saves before Jess Fitzgerald eventually found the net.
With two minutes of added time at the end of the first half, both sides pushed to add another goal to the scoreboard, but neither could find a breakthrough before the interval.
Both sides entered the second half with plenty of intent as possession ebbed and flowed between the two teams. Hibernian threatened early after the restart, but Lisa Forrest reacted well to shut down the opportunity and help drive possession back up the pitch.
Lis then tried her luck from outside the area, but her effort was comfortably gathered by Rowena Armitage. City's persistence paid off at the hour mark when Kelly Brady found the net for her second goal of the evening, bringing the score level at 2-2.
Hibernian looked to respond almost immediately through Tiree Burchill, but her effort drifted wide of the target.
City turned possession over once again and launched another attack. Emily Whelan delivered a dangerous cross into the area, picking out Lisa Forrest, whose goal-bound header towards the bottom corner was intercepted before it could cross the line. Lis remained a constant threat and soon tested Armitage again, but the goalkeeper held onto her strike.
The hosts were then penalised for a pass back, giving City an indirect free kick inside the area. Hibernian packed the goal line as Lisa Forrest took the touch, but her effort was blocked by the defence. The loose ball fell to Amy Anderson on the edge of the area, and her strike clipped the side of the post.
City continued to apply pressure through Erin McLaughlin and Kelly Brady, both forcing Armitage into action. Hibernian looked to counter through Caley Gibb, but Jesi Rossman read the danger well and intercepted her run.
A number of changes followed for City in the closing stages as Sofia Määttä and Hayley Lauder replaced Lisa Evans and Amy Anderson. Tia Primmer and Ruby Seaby were also introduced and gained valuable minutes late in the game.
The contest continued to swing from end to end as both sides searched for the decisive goal. With three minutes of added time played, each team pushed for a late winner, but neither could find the breakthrough as the points were shared.
It remains early in the season, but every point counts. We will now turn our attention to next week's challenge as we face Livingston in Round Two of the Sky Sports Cup.
