Our Scottish Women's Premier League season started in impressive fashion as we beat Motherwell 3-0 at Petershill Park thanks to first-half goals from Nicole Kozlova (2) and Katie Lockwood.
There were competitive debuts for summer signings Lana Golob and Abi Harrison as they were named in the first City SWPL starting XI of the new season.
An early opportunity fell to the hosts, with Lockwood winning back possession in the final third, before the ball found its way to Natalia Wróbel who hit a tame shot towards goal.
We did soon take the lead with only 12 minutes on the clock when last season's top scorer Kozlova made the most of a slack Motherwell back-pass and rifled it into the roof of the net from the left-side of the box.
And it was soon two when Wróbel played a perfectly weighted through pass to Lockwood, splitting the visiting defence, and our No.8 made no mistake in slotting the ball home for our second of the afternoon.
Our fast start got even better after 23 minutes as Kozlova bagged her brace when she smashed the ball into the back of the net after getting onto the end of a Lockwood ball into the box.
It should have been 4-0 10 minutes before half-time when Lisa Evans sent an inviting ball across the face of goal to Harrison, who chipped it goalwards and saw it collected by Motherwell goalkeeper Rebecca Cameron.
Minutes inside the second half, we went close again as a rebounded effort made its way to Chloe Warrington on the edge of the box and her strike had to be pushed round the post by goalkeeper Cameron.
Only moments later, we fashioned yet another chance and this time it fell to forward Lisa Forrest, but she could only guide her close-range effort to the wrong side of the post.
It was a hat-trick of close-cut chances during the second period for City as a well-worked move into the box saw debutant Harrison clip the post from only a couple of yards out.
In the dying stages, a fantastic team move saw substitute Sofia Määttä played through on goal, but the forward's low strike did not have enough power on it to trouble the Motherwell goalie.
And there was still time to add to our tally, but this time the goalkeeper had to be alert to make a stretched diving stop to deny Lockwood her brace from a curling strike on the edge of the area.
Although there were no further goals, it was an impressive shift in hot conditions as we started the 2025/26 campaign with putting three points on the board at the first opportunity.
