Match Action from The Peasy
There were nine changes from Wednesday night's Europa Cup clash against HB Køge in Denmark, with Erin Clachers, Chloe Warrington, Emma Brownlie, Erín McLaughlin, Katie Lockwood, Natalia Wróbel, Mebae Tanaka and Abi Harrison all coming into the XI.
We looked to threaten upon winning an early corner via Wróbel, but the visitors then looked to hit us on the counterattack and were cut out by some great defending by Kimberley Smit, who intercepted the ball in a dangerous area.
Our lead arrived when the ball was whipped in by Whelan down the right flank, but was just too high for the awaiting Harrison. It then dropped to the feet of Forrest, and she made no mistake in firing it home for her second domestic goal in as many games.
It could have been two midway through the first half and it came from another Whelan ball. This time Harrison met her delivery, but was denied by goalkeeper Jennifer Currie as she tips our No.9's header onto the bar.
There were several other chances as the first half continued, with the best coming from a corner where a number of players in orange tried to hit the goalwards, but it bounced about until Smit's header dropped just wide.
In the second half, we fashioned an early opportunity. A corner was whipped in and dropped to the feet of McLaughlin, who saw her strike from close-range denied by a superb stop by the visiting goalie.
Moments later, Wróbel flashed a shot just wide of the post after being picked out by a good pass from Tanaka, as we continued to get into good spaces early on in the second period.
A double stop by Currie kept Wróbel off the scoresheet, as she got a palm to her initial strike before she got down again to claw away the Polish midfielder's rebounded effort.
Substitute Nicole Kozlova looked to double our lead with 15 minutes left to go, as she twisted her body around the ball to get a shot away but it dropped into the side-netting and remained 1-0.
But our second did soon arrive and it was from another substitute. Määttä got on the end of another ball in from Whelan, who got her second assist of the day, and fired it home from only a couple yards out.
In the dying minutes, Kozlova saw her penalty saved by goalkeeper Currie, before the latter pulled off another good save to tip Linda Motlhalo's long-range effort onto the bar.
