Ten Player City secure late victory over Hearts

Ten player City dug deep to claim a hard earned victory over Hearts at a rainswept K Park with goals from Amy Muir and Sofia Määttä getting Leanne Ross and her side back to winning ways in the Scottish Women's Premier League.

The City Head Coach named the same starting eleven as the one that ended Sunday's defeat to Celtic with Natalia Wróbel and Emily Whelan coming in for Aleigh Gambone and Lisa Forrest, as the visitors arrived with four former City players in their starting line up including forward Lauren Wade who scored four years ago to the day for City during a UWCL quarter-final defeat to Wolfsburg.

In the early stages both sides exchanged chances with Eilidh Shore and Katie Lockwood going close to opening the scoring before City started to take control.

Despite dominating possession chances were hard to find but the deadlock would be broken in spectacular fashion by Amy Muir who, on the 42nd minute, picked up the ball on the edge of the area before unleashing a curling shot that dipped under the bar and past the outstretched arm of Rachael Johnstone in the Hearts goal.

That lead would be short lived though as with the final kick of the half Lisa Robertson would equalise from the penalty spot after Kimberley Smit was adjudged to have fouled Shore while through on goal, the defender shown a straight red card as a result of the challenge.

Leanne Ross shuffled her pack with Wilma Forsblom and Jo Love coming on for Emily Whelan and Natalia Wróbel with City continuing to try and play on the front foot despite their numerical disadvantage in filthy conditions.

As the home side continued to push for a winner Hearts looked to counter but City would get their reward for a tireless team performance as in the 85th minute a driving run and cross from substitute Chloe Warrington found a late running Määttä to guide the ball home for her fourth goal in three games.

The visitors tried to muster a late rally but the ten held firm to return City to winning ways ahead of Sunday's trip to Kirkintilloch to face Partick Thistle in league action.
