With the club confirming Jo Love will leave Glasgow City when her contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, Chief Executive Laura Montgomery has paid tribute to one of our greatest ever players.
"Wow, where do I even start?
Probably, firstly, by saying I am emotional writing this. Jo Love. That name is synonymous with greatness, and I am so proud it is synonymous with our club.
Ask any player to name the best players they have ever played with and Jo Love will always be on that list. She is without a doubt one of the very greatest our little country has ever produced and one of the best we will ever produce.
She is also one of the nicest people you could ever meet and the best teammate to have. Ask any person who has met or played with Jo and they will tell you the exact same.
I first saw Jo as a 14-year-old running rings around our U16 youth team and at that point, she was the most talented player I had ever set my eyes on. It is also the moment I knew I would try my very best to one day make her a Glasgow City player.
It is of no surprise to any of us in the game that she has gone on to be Scotland’s most-capped outfield international player of all time and an undeniable Glasgow City legend.
Jo has given our club the past 14 years of her life and also some of our greatest ever memories and biggest achievements. It is no coincidence that our success has had Jo Love at the heart of every single bit of it.
Who can forget that moment she stepped up to take the decisive penalty against Brøndby to take us to the UEFA Champions League quarter finals for the second time? Or when she rifled the back of the net on 81 minutes to equalise on aggregate against FC Zurich on route to the quarter-finals the first time around on Europe’s biggest stage?
For Jo to be the player to help us create two of the best moments in our club's history is fitting for the player she is. For those moments alone, she will always be a legend, never mind the countless others where she's been at the forefront.
Our club will not be the same without Jo, but she leaves knowing this will always be her family and a place to call home.
Thank you Jo. Once City, Always City."
