We are delighted to announce the arrival of our latest signing Japanese winger Mebae Tanaka, who has penned a two-year deal with City.
The 29-year-old makes the move to Scotland having most recently plied her trade at professional level in the A-League with New Zealand outfit Wellington Phoenix. She made 19 appearances during her debut season, scoring once.
The winger – who will be the first Japanese player to play for The Original Trailblazers – is excited to make this next step in her career by joining Leanne Ross and her side, as she said: “I’m so happy to be here and to join this amazing club.
“I am a technical player and like to communicate and combine with my teammates. My position is a winger, so I want to score goals and assist. The season has started, so I hope to bring the energy.”
Head coach Ross added: “I’m really happy to bring Mebae to Glasgow City. She is a player with very good technical abilities, and she will bring even more quality and depth to an already strong squad.
“She has gained a lot of professional experience from her time in Japan, South Korea and New Zealand which will be incredibly valuable in this environment.”
Before making the move down under, Tanaka played professionally in her native Japan and with Suwon FC in the South Korean top-flight.
She then moved to Australia to join Preston Lions FC who play in Victoria’s National Premier Leagues (NPL) competition. During her time in Melbourne, she scored 10 goals in 18 matches.
Our new recruit will wear the No.22 shirt during the 2025/26 season.
Everyone at Glasgow City is thrilled to welcome Mebae to the club and we can’t wait to see her thrive in her new surroundings.
