Glasgow City can announce that Janine Van Wyk has left the club.
The South African international has had to return to home in order to focus on the running of her own club, JVW FC.
Van Wyk played 21 games for the club including against VfL Wolfsburg in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter final at the Anoeta Stadium and scored three goals for the club, helping City secure a 14th consecutive SWPL title.
CEO, Laura Montgomery said:
“I would like to thank Janine whole heartedly for everything she has given to our club. She has been incredible to have at Glasgow City and I know it has not been an easy decision, to return to South Africa. However, I understand perhaps more than most the demands of running a football club, and trying to do so at the same time as playing having done so for over ten years at Glasgow City in my own playing days, never mind trying to do so from a foreign country which Janine has been doing. The game is moving at an incredible pace in Africa and I know Janine feels she needs to be at home to steer her club as they continue to compete for championships.
“We wish her and her club, JVW, which has its values aligned very much with our own, the very best and look forward to working together in partnership over the coming years.”

“Unfortunately my time at City has been cut short after making a decision to return back to South Africa due to my football club commitments. It was honestly the toughest decision to make for me as I thoroughly enjoyed every minute at Glasgow City FC, but also knowing that JVW requires my full attention. I'd like to thank everyone at City for making my time there an unforgettable experience and also wishing the team all the best for the remainder of the season"
